Our elementary grade summer school in Brooklyn is like a small-town high school. All teachers are single subject specialists; students rotate to six different teachers every day. This is a multisensory academic summer program for kids who are plenty smart, but for whatever reason have some catching-up to do.
Summer 2016 will be our eleventh year, and our fourth at The Park Slope Jewish Center, at 14th Street and 8th Avenue in Brooklyn. We hold recesses, dance, and sports classes in the yard at PS 107, across the street.
We offer a long day for hard-working parents and energetic kids – from 8:00 till 6:00. Students have seven classes daily, plus three hours of rest and recreation. We consider the five daily recesses to be an essential part of the curriculum. We take recess seriously.
The morning classes are multisensory literacy, multisensory math, and a science lab. The afternoon classes are drama, art, dance, and sports. An SLP is on duty every morning for students needing speech intervention. It feels a bit like school before lunch, then from noon till 6:00 it feels more like camp.
Please watch one or two of the summer school videos here. Please also have a look at our independent pre and post test results here. We have a track record with 18 cohorts over the last three years, 167 kids in all.
